Recap for Wednesday August 28, 2019
Wednesday Meeting recap:

What a great crowd on Wednesday!  If you missed the meeting, here’s a quick recap:

Upcoming dates:

Thursday, September 12, Street Party of Hope, contact Laura Barta Lindquist to volunteer at the S’Mores Booth.

Friday, September 13, Rotary Car Raffle.  Please turn in any unsold tickets to Jackie, turn in $25 gift cards for drawings to Tyler, Chelsie or Jackie, and drop off silent auction items to Kris.  Our club is so lucky that this is our ONLY general fundraiser of the year so let’s make it great!  Volunteers are still needed to help make this evening a true success.  Follow the Volunteer Opportunities link to see how you can help!

Our new Rotary inbound student from Indonesia, Vanya,  joined us this week. Please sign up to take her to a upcoming activity or event using the following links:
She would love to experience all that Buffalo and Minnesota have to offer! For a list of ideas of places and activities, go to BuffaloRotary.com, click “Youth Exchange” and on the right hand column you’ll find a great list of suggestions.

Our speaker this week was Teresa McNamee, Interim Executive Director of Rivers of Hope.  Rivers of Hope (ROH) is a domestic and family abuse prevention non-profit organization.

ROH funding comes from the federal government (Office of Justice), Sherburne and Wright Counties, community grants and foundations and their Gala Fundraiser. They work very closely with local law enforcement and the county sheriff departments.

Rivers of Hope provides advocacy for those seeking protection in criminal and civil courts, partner with schools to provide support for students affected by child abuse, bullying, and those who are witnesses to domestic abuse. They also provide programs to help prevent domestic abuse.

Last year, they assisted over 1600 victims which was up 40% over the prior year.  Teresa shared that in July of this year, they responded 110 calls from Wright County.  She also added that 80% of all abuse goes unreported despite their 24/7 call line which is answered by volunteers and paid staff.

Thank you Chelsie for inviting Teresa!
