Robotic Orthopedic Surgery

Dana Harms, MD, is an Orthopedic Surgeon at Buffalo Hospital, specializing in shoulder reconstruction, arthroplasty and joint replacement surgery. He has served Buffalo, and the surrounding communities, for 15 years and enjoys that his work allows him to interact with patients to improve lifestyles. Dr. Harms is an advocate for patients and is passionate that they receive the best care possible. As such he championed the work to procure state-of-the-art technology for surgical patients via the MAKO robot at Buffalo Hospital. Dr. Harms will be presenting to the Buffalo Rotary information about this new technology and what it can do for the patients/community members. |

Wright County Public Health Survey

Bio: Joel Torkelson is a Public Health Planner at Wright County Public Health. He has worked there since 2004. Joel works closely with Buffalo Hospital, part of Allina Health, CentraCare – Monticello and Wright County Community Action to conduct a community health assessment and create a community health improvement plan. Joel believes in the power of data and its ability to help us create healthier communities. When harnessed correctly it helps us engage the public and in time can make a positive difference across our communities. His family has called Buffalo home since 2012. He is grateful to live and work in this community. In his free time he enjoys running, golfing and ice fishing.
Speaking about: In late 2021 a community health survey was mailed out to adults across Wright County. We received the survey results in March 2022. Buffalo Hospital, part of Allina Health, CentraCare – Monticello, Wright County Community Action and Wright County Public worked together to administer the survey. A general overview of the findings will be shared including people’s opinions on key issues facing Wright County, use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs, distracted driving behaviors and several measures related to mental health. Additionally, some of the questions were asked on previous surveys, allowing us to share trend data. A handout with important data points will be provided as well. |

TimberBay Youth Program

Timber Bay is a Christian organization that supports and mentors struggling youth in the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose area. This is done through large group activities, one-on-one mentoring, and camping experiences. Ben began volunteering at Timber Bay in 2014 while teaching at Buffalo High School and Phoenix Learning Center. As he worked with struggling youth in both the school setting and at Timber Bay, it was clear to him that so many of the kids in the Buffalo community needed to hear about God's love and forgiveness. He finished his 11th and final year of teaching in the spring of 2020 and joined the Buffalo Timber Bay area that fall. Ben took over as Area Director inJanuary 2022 and brings fun and energy to the group. He enjoys teaching our students how to work on cars, camp, and encourages kids to get involved in the community. |
