Buffalo Food Shelf Volunteers: Enter through the Volunteer Entrance at the back of the building. Arrive at 12:30, as that is when the food shelf closes and you can start assisting with packing up the remaining items that are due to spoil or expire. You will pack produce, bakery, and bread items and set these onto a scale to be weighed and then they are packed into the food shelf van. They are then transported to various locations around Buffalo. You will follow the van to the location and assist with unpacking the boxes for distribution to community members. Please keep in mind that lifting and bending is involved with this volunteer opportunity. While commitment times can vary from week to week, you can anticipate being completed around 2-2:30pm.

Our one-day-fun-day is Friday, April 28, 2017, at the Westin Hotel in Edina. There is free parking and it is easy to get to. We have an action-packed day, and designed for you to take it all in for the full day or if you can make part of it, why you can just sign up for that. We start with breakfast and a morning speech by Kim Valentini, founder of the Smile Network. Plan to be inspired by her work that has spread across the globe. Your Breakfast registration gets you breakfast (with bacon), Kim’s inspirational speech and the morning breakout sessions, as well as an opportunity to walk through the Hall of Friendship.
The lunch program will be inspirational and motivational! Erik Therwanger is our speaker and he has an inspirational message that will make you think. In fact, he has written a book called “Think GREAT,” and his stories will move us to think and act with intention. Following Erik’s remarks, we will have the breakout track again. Speaking of breakouts, we have nine different sessions that will be repeated in the morning and two afternoon slots, so you can pick you favorites. Among the choices is a Project Done in a Day. Attendees will not only do service, they will be educated and given a “project in a box” to take back to implement at their clubs. It is anticipated that the “Rotary Rooters” will be signing a song or two, if you are a singer, and a Rotarian, you too can be a Rotary Rooter!
The evening registration includes happy hour, dinner and the evening’s entertainment. The cocktail happy hour will have tasty bites and a light atmosphere as The Jazz Cats play (led by our very own Polio Plus Chair Tim Mulcrone!) – they play the great lounge songs made famous by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin! We will have the International Country Fair, where you can visit with our proud inbound International Exchange Students, as they exhibit and share their culture with us. These students will lead us into dinner with their moving Flag Ceremony. After a great meal, we will be entertained by the River Rats Dueling Pianos - these two provide a bunch of fun!
Take it all in with the All-Day Pass, or pick one or two of the meal tracks. This is going to be a great celebration of District 5950 and Rotary Serving Humanity in Perfect Harmony. Please sign up today! |
