Rotary 101 presents October's Rotary topic: Economic & Community Development. Speaker, Kathryn Hoy will discuss how we can plan our own economic security by preparing for the unexpected events in life. Kathryn describes the presentation: " It is fun to plan for the future – whether in the near term or further out. What is not fun is an unexpected and unwanted "event" that really puts a damper on our plans. We respond to these events at two levels, emotionally and administratively. The emotional side of any event can be hard enough so being able to minimize the administrative hassles can be a life saver during a difficult time. Buffalo Food Shelf Volunteers: Enter through the Volunteer Entrance at the back of the building. Arrive at 12:30, as that is when the food shelf closes and you can start assisting with packing up the remaining items that are due to spoil or expire. You will pack produce, bakery, and bread items and set these onto a scale to be weighed and then they are packed into the food shelf van. They are then transported to various locations around Buffalo. You will follow the van to the location and assist with unpacking the boxes for distribution to community members. Please keep in mind that lifting and bending is involved with this volunteer opportunity. While commitment times can vary from week to week, you can anticipate being completed around 2-2:30pm.
